Software Engineer-Image Processing

Our vision of a world in which proteomic data is democratized hinges on our ability to create an ultra-sensitive and ultra-fast image processing system to analyze data produced by the Nautilus Assay in real time. A core step in that data analysis workflow is the detection and classification of fluorescent molecules in images produced by our automated microscopy system. We are looking for someone who can leverage their expertise in both classical and machine learning image processing techniques to help us solve accuracy, performance, and fundamental investigative problems within our analysis pipeline. Job Description

Role and Responsibilities:

Although we have existing prototype software that is able to process some of the images generated by our instruments, we need to continue developing it going forward. Development will include evaluating the efficacy of our algorithms against more diverse data and ever-larger data sets, building classification models, creating specialized features and processing modes to support a variety of bioinformatics analyses, and ultimately building and deploying a scalable production implementation of the entire image processing pipeline.

We are looking for someone to help us with all facets of the software engineering effort involved, including:

  • Researching, prototyping, and testing the accuracy and performance of image processing algorithms.
  • Creating programs to validate image processing and machine learning algorithms against large data sets.
  • Working closely with experimentalists and bioinformaticists to understand the requirements for experimental analyses, and creating, deploying, and supporting the software tools that meet those requirements.
  • Collaborating with other software engineers to design and develop the production implementation of the image processing and classification software.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:
  • 4+ years of experience in a high-performing software engineering organization or equivalent experience in higher education
  • Solid grasp of computer science fundamentals and an eagerness to tackle challenging, unique problems
  • Practical experience in solving computer vision or image processing problems
  • Skilled in Python and the standard Python packages used for data analysis
  • You find it fun to write software for scientific applications.
  • You want to make the world a better place.
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with C++, C, or other “low level” performant language
  • Experience using OpenCV or other similar libraries, from either Python or C++, to identify features in noisy images
  • Experienced in utilizing integration, functional, and unit test frameworks to quickly build out tests that prove the behavior of complex systems
  • Practical experience building, training, and validating machine learning classifiers
  • Previous work experience from a medical device company.
