You will get a front row seat to see how proteomics will be forever changed when we are successful in launching our platform. As the patent agent, you will need to provide clear guidance on issues ranging from patentability to risk evaluation. To be successful in this role you will be registered to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). And you will be used to navigating a broad range of legal workflows with superior project management skills.

Job Description

Role and Responsibilities:
  • Drafting, filing and prosecuting patent applications covering company technology in the US and worldwide.
  • Gathering and reviewing company invention disclosures.
  • Conducting prior art searches
  • Coordinating and administering patent docket with outside law firms.
  • Assisting company counsel and outside law firms in support of diligence and risk mitigation activities regarding intellectual property
  • Working with company counsel and outside law firms to maximize efficiency of company legal/IP operations.
  • Assisting in building and maintaining company’s culture of innovation through outreach and education of all employees on intellectual property matters.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
  • At least 3 years-experience working as a patent agent in a law firm or fast paced company performing all aspects of patent preparation and prosecution.
  • Strong background in biochemistry, bioanalytical systems and/or bioinformatics, including at least an undergraduate degree in life sciences related area. Advance degree (MS or Ph.D.) or significant hands-on professional experience preferred.
  • Must be registered to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office.
  • Must be a quick study, able to grasp diverse and advanced technical concepts rapidly and be able to clearly communicate same, both verbally and in writing.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and be a team player.
  • Must have strong organizational skills as well as ability to optimize and prioritize workflows.
  • Must have a “pitch-in” attitude required in start-up environments.
