Director of Project Management

San Carlos, CA

The Director of Project Management is responsible for providing program leadership to ensure projects achieve desired outcomes from product definition through product commercialization. The ideal person for this role will have experience in helping teams define and achieve the objectives and goals required to complete projects on time and within budget. To be successful in this role, Nautilus will need a strong cross-functional leader with a hands-on approach, with excellent decision making and prioritizing ability. They will be responsible for ensuring the timely development and successful implementation of best practices in cross functional team leadership. The growth path for this role is likely to include the build out of a project management organization as the company moves through each of the product development life cycle stages.

Job Description

Role and Responsibilities:
  • Communicate with a variety of stakeholders at all levels effectively, including executives with differing priorities.
  • Publish routine dashboards and reports that effectively communicate progress, risk and achievements of the overall portfolio. Leverages technology to drive a data-driven and risk-based approach to socializing progress, risks and achievements within the programs.
  • Oversee all phases of the product development process from Concept to Launch, with excellent understanding of Design Control principles.
  • Lead complex programs delivering milestones on time and on budget. Skilled in project planning, risk management, project execution and communication to all levels of the organization.
  • Take ownership of hands-on management and tracking of overall team progress and provide detailed management status reports and updates.
  • Effectively manage multiple small projects or one large project
  • Drive for accountability within self and others and implement project management processes and tools that facilitate communication of cross team accountabilities and performance to deliverable schedules
  • Recruit and lead other project managers
  • Develop excellent working relationships across the organization; be able to influence outcomes without direct reporting relationships.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of eight years relevant experience, two years of which must be in leadership/project management roles.
  • Product Development Project Management experience from biotechnology, medical device company, or a regulated industry
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience in leading and directing project managers as well as the ability to focus on and complete the administrative tasks of management such as performance appraisals, hiring, etc.
  • Experience in leading cross functional “virtual” teams
  • Knowledge of regulations and standards affecting IVDs and Biologics.
  • Experience in Quality System Regulations (QSR) 21 CFR 820 and Design Control: ISO 13485:2003
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification or similar
  • Experienced in medical device or FDA-cleared product development
  • Knowledge of basic business principles including assessment of product profit and loss/development of product level pro-forma’s and a general understanding of corporate business metrics.
